Keeping Up with Doctor Appointments
Sep 11, 2008I’m terrible at keeping up with my doctor appointments. It’s not the doctor appointments. I mean, when I have an appointment, I make keep it. It’s the making of the appointment that’s so bad. If I don’t get the appointment while I’m at the doctor, I’ll be forever and day making one later.
I had my hospital visit in June. At the end of July I had the catheter… then went back a few days later to have that removed. Since then, I haven’t seen anyone. I spoke with my doctor once. Played some phone tag with the assistant, but accomplished the most important thing - to get medications called into the pharmacy. But, no doctor appointment.
The other day, the office called and scheduled an appointment - finally - I mean, if I’m so bad about it making the appointment, at least they finally called me.
I think they called because somehow they figured out I decreased my prednisone on my own this week. I went for 40 mg a day to 30 mg a day. And the day I was ready to take the catheter out on my own, the doctor called to check on me.. and explained why I shouldn’t take it out, lol.. it’s like they have a certain ESP on me.
Why did I lower my prednisone amount? Because of the voracious appetite I had. It was horrible! I gained 15 pounds over my “normal” weight and it’s all in my face, shoulders and tummy. I don’t mind having some extra weight.. but come on, at least distribute it proportionately. Put a few pounds on my chicken legs or give me some hips.. I’ve had “boy hips” all my life.. I wouldn’t mind having a little more curve. But I don’t need it in my face, my neck and shoulders and I certainly have no desire to look like I’m pregnant.
