Caroline - I don't know what time your appointment is.. but I think it's pretty typical that your first appointment will take longer than others. Even a regular appointment can take 2 - 4 hours. It's given in IV, rather than just getting a shot of something and being on your way. So, you have to patiently wait for the remicade to slowly make it's way into your body. Once my treatment was done, I was fine.. I didn't feel sick or sore or tired afterwards (though I did usually nap a bit when I'd have the treatment done - take a book, or a show/movie to watch on your ipod or phone, or music to pass the time). Hope it goes quickly enough for you..

Just a quick run-down on how things worked. I'd get there for my appointment and they'd put me in a room (I'd be put in a regular hospital room, usually by myself, but I think this is per hospital) and make sure they had my info (into their computer system) make sure I was getting what they thought I was getting, ask how I was doing... then, they'd call down to pharmacy for the medication to be sent up (they weren't allowed to have it sitting there ready and waiting for me).. that would take 30mins to an hour.. then they'd get things started and the IV itself would take around 3 hours or so, depending on what my dosage was and how quickly things were moving along. They start out slowly, then turn it up to move it along as time goes.

Good luck!

Remicade usually make people feel cold so an experienced place will offer a blanket right away. Also, most places will add benedryl to IV so you'll be sleepy/drowsy and wont notice 2 hours go by.
But that feeling might last the rest of the day.

Remicade worked great for me the first 3 times then insurance didnt cover any more and next time it was covered it didnt help me at all.
